Description
1969 was a banner year for Playboy—culturally bulletproof, visually unmatched, and fully entrenched in the American zeitgeist. Hugh Hefner’s vision had matured into a glossy, urbane empire: the magazine featured Norman Mailer and Nabokov, while the centerfolds defined pop-era sensuality. By this point, Playboy had become more than a lifestyle brand—it was the brand. The mix of editorial prestige and photogenic allure hit its peak in the late ’60s, and this calendar—issued at the tail end of the decade—is pure vintage Playboy at full throttle.
This is the complete 1969 Playboy Playmate Desktop Calendar with all 12 monthly cards intact and housed in the original display frame. Each leaf features a different Playmate posed in seasonal flair—December’s Britt Fredriksen as a “Nordic sprite” is a stunner. They’re all great. The calendar was not sold in stores but offered via mail-order insert to subscribers or through direct promo by the magazine. It was meant to sit on desks, vanities, or office walls—equal parts risqué and refined. Typical Hef. These compact calendar sets were printed in limited numbers, and few have survived intact with both the sleeve and stand and in such good shape.
A must-have for collectors of vintage Playboy, vintage erotica, pin-up ephemera, or anyone chasing that elusive mix of Midcentury glam and Mad Men cool.
