Original punk flyers were never intended to survive. They were stapled to telephone poles, taped to record store windows, and handed out at clubs. I picked this flyer up in a record store sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s, and it’s been part of my collection ever since.

This flyer captures the formative years of SST Records, when the label was still defining what American independent music could become. Bringing together the Minutemen, Meat Puppets, Saccharine Trust, and Overkill at the Whisky, the “SST Blow-Out” represents an extraordinary gathering of bands that would each help shape the sound of underground rock throughout the 1980s.
