Original punk flyers were never intended to survive. They were stapled to telephone poles, taped to record store windows, and handed out at clubs. This example promotes a terrific early Los Angeles show featuring the Minutemen with Human Therapy and Pilgrim State at the Fiesta House. I picked it up in a record store sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s, and it’s been part of my collection ever since.

By early 1984, the Minutemen had become one of the most inventive bands on the SST roster, blending punk, funk, jazz, and politics into a sound unlike anyone else. Flyers for smaller venues like the Fiesta House were printed in tiny numbers and rarely survived after the show. Today, authentic pieces like this offer a direct connection to the Southern California underground scene at one of its most creative moments.
