Description
Bill Lister, often called “The Tall Texan,” was a country singer who toured with Hank Williams and the Drifting Cowboys in the early 1950s. A staple of the Grand Ole Opry, Lister’s booming voice and larger-than-life presence kept him in demand across radio stations throughout the South and Midwest. His association with Williams — and the fact that he helped preserve some of Williams’ music, including the demo that became “There’s a Tear in My Beer” — cemented him as a key figure in the honky-tonk era.
This vintage picture captures Lister in front of a KABC microphone, guitar in hand, Stetson on his head, and his trademark smile beaming. The photo is boldly signed in blue ink: “Sincerely, Bill Lister.” Likely taken during one of his radio performances, the image combines live country energy with the intimacy of a small station broadcast. Signed photographs of Lister are scarce, especially from this early period, making this an exceptional piece of country music history.
Essential for collectors of vintage country ephemera, early radio snapshots, and honky-tonk history.
