Description

Every January, Black Sparrow Press sent a special keepsake to friends of the press—small editions that were never intended for bookstores and often disappeared into private collections. This charming 1976 New Year’s greeting brings together two of the publisher’s defining voices: Charles Bukowski and Diane Wakoski, each contributing an original poem. Just 176 copies were produced, making it one of the scarcer Black Sparrow holiday publications.

What elevates this copy is the survival of its original Black Sparrow Press mailing envelope, completing the presentation exactly as recipients would have found it in their mailbox nearly fifty years ago. Ephemeral by nature and easily discarded, these publisher greetings have become increasingly desirable among Bukowski and Black Sparrow collectors, especially when retained with their original mailing materials. A wonderful piece of Black Sparrow history and an increasingly elusive addition to any serious Bukowski collection.

A beautiful survivor from the golden age of Black Sparrow Press.
