Description
This striking black-and-white photograph of Bob Dylan—smiling, guitar in hand, and tipping his hat—was taken by Elliott Landy in 1969 during a session near Dylan’s Woodstock home. It’s one of the most iconic portraits ever made of the artist and was famously used as the cover image for his Nashville Skyline album. Originally slated for the back cover, this candid, disarming photo replaced a more literal shot of the Nashville skyline and helped redefine Dylan’s public persona for the country-inflected album that followed his ’60s electric era.
The print offered here appears to be from that very session, with the image professionally printed in a lab on RC photo paper and the caption “Photograph by Elliott Landy, 1969” printed in the margin. The verso is blank. This is not a digital print on printer paper. While not signed or stamped, this piece presents beautifully—an evocative, collector-worthy slice of rock history that channels Dylan’s unexpected pivot and Landy’s ability to frame intimacy without artifice. A standout for any fan of Dylan, album art, or 1960s music photography.
Vintage Landy prints don’t surface often. Would frame beautifully. Then, hang it in your record room! (But whatever you do, stop calling them “vinyls”.)
