Description
These are original MGM publicity stills from Viva Las Vegas (1964), pairing Elvis Presley with Ann-Margret at the height of their on-screen—and off-screen—chemistry. In this film, Elvis plays Lucky Jackson, a race car driver, and the styling here—particularly the fitted racing jacket—reflects that shift into a more contemporary, mid-1960s role. What sets this pair apart is that neither image falls into the familiar rotation of widely reproduced Elvis stills; these are non-standard publicity images, staged and printed for more limited press use rather than mass circulation.
That distinction carries through to the prints themselves. These non-standard images were far less likely to be reissued in later decades, and the fairly heavy paper stock and tonal quality are consistent with original mid-1960s silver gelatin production, likely printed at or near the time of the film’s release. A recent search turns up the picnic scene in Getty’s archival holdings, but the tight kissing close-up—the stronger image of the two—does not surface with any regularity. You’ve got a recognizable title and pairing, but images that don’t show up every time you go looking.
Viva Las Vegas is everywhere—these are non-standard images, and the kissing close-up in particular is one you don’t run into.
