Description
This is Eric Kroll’s Fetish Girls—his best-known and most widely recognized book, published by Taschen in 1994 at the beginning of their large-format, high-impact photo book production. Kroll’s work sits right at the intersection of fetish culture, fashion, and staged erotic photography, and this book became a defining statement of that aesthetic. Produced with Taschen’s usual attention to bold design and strong color reproduction, it was meant to be seen, handled, and left out—not hidden away.
What sets this lot apart is the direct connection to Kroll himself. Both copies are signed, and included is an original photograph from the “Yolanda With Whip” series laid in—a 5″ x 7″ image from the same set used as the book’s frontispiece—lab printed on Kodak Royal paper and annotated on the verso by Kroll. Taschen printed a promotional postcard featuring Yolanda’s frontispiece image; this original, signed print ties the book, the print, and its original marketing together into one cohesive piece. Both the first and second printings of the book are present, both with identical copyright pages and ISBN numbers, confirming the closely issued production differences—something collectors of Taschen photo books will recognize.
Sure, a signed Fetish Girls is good—how about two variants with an original image (Yolanda!) accompanied by Kroll’s handwritten story—all in one shot?!
