Description

By the mid-1980s, Eric Stanton had settled comfortably into the role of cult cartoonist, producing a steady stream of independently published material for an audience that knew exactly what it wanted. Stantoons 9 gathers three stories—Bar Brawl, Captive Casanova, and Poor Letty—and showcases the blend of action, humor, fantasy, and exaggerated female dominance that made Stanton’s work instantly recognizable. The cover alone feels like a sampler platter of his artistic obsessions.

What I enjoy about this issue is how much movement there is in the artwork. Stanton was never interested in static pin-ups. His women kick, wrestle, drag, carry, and generally take command of every situation. These digest-sized publications were sold through specialty channels and mail-order networks, often disappearing into private collections. Four decades later, they remain among the more difficult Stanton publications to locate in collectible condition.

A desirable addition to any Eric Stanton collection.
