Description

This film was an adaptation of the popular novel Storm Country by Grace Miller White. The story revolves around Tessibel Skinner (played by Norma Talmadge), a strong-willed young woman navigating societal challenges and personal hardship. Farnum played Frederick Graves, a key character in the storyline, interacting with Tess in this melodramatic narrative.

The film was a sequel to the 1914 production Tess of the Storm Country, which had been a significant success. Despite both films’ popularity, like many silent films of that era, neither has survived.

The silent film era (roughly 1890s to late 1920s) produced thousands of films, but an estimated 70–90% of those films are considered lost. This staggering loss is due to a combination of technical, economic, and historical factors.

Provenance: The Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) manages the deaccessioning of materials—removing items from its permanent collection—primarily through partnerships with local Friends of the Library groups. These organizations often hold regular book sales featuring deaccessioned and donated items. This image — after being digitized — was part of that sale.
