Description

Gearhead sat at a very specific cultural crossroads in the late 1990s—where punk rock, garage revival, hot rods, pin-up art, and underground graphics all collided. These issues document that moment when bands like The Donnas, Hellacopters, Groovie Ghoulies, and adjacent scenes were still operating just outside the mainstream, fueled by DIY ethics, vinyl / tiki / racing culture, and sweat-soaked club shows. Gearhead wasn’t just reporting on the scene—it was part of the infrastructure that helped sustain it.

Beyond the music coverage, these issues showcase the visual language of the era: bold illustration, tattoo culture, lowbrow art influences, and photography that feels unapologetically analog. For collectors of punk ephemera, zines, or West Coast underground publishing, Gearhead captures a raw, unfiltered slice of late-’90s culture before the internet sanded off its edges.

These are ideal for someone who wants the content, the visuals, and the moment—without paying a premium for perfect copies with the original flexi-discs.
