Description
Published in conjunction with my 2017 exhibition “Sexual Fictions” at These Days in Los Angeles, Various Self Portraits operates as both documentation and extension of the show. Rather than functioning as a traditional catalog, the zine presents various adult actors making on-set “selfies”. It allows the viewer to move through the zine as a set of loosely connected scenes—part narrative, part fragment.
The photographs draw from the visual language of vintage erotica, cinema, and pulp storytelling, but avoid resolution. Each image suggests a larger story without fully revealing it, placing emphasis on gesture, staging, and implication. As a format, the zine suits the material—direct, unpretentious, and close to the source—echoing the way the work itself resists polish in favor of immediacy.
Produced in connection with Camp’s 2017 Los Angeles exhibition and available here directly from the photographer. Less than a half-dozen remain.
