Description
A true piece of late-’60s counterculture ephemera, Kanned Korn Komix sits right at the intersection of underground comix, psychedelia, and rock culture—issued in connection with the Los Angeles based blues revival band Canned Heat and their orbit. Adapted by Bo Schnepf from a story by Neal Aberman, it carries that loose, anything-goes energy of the era—part fan artifact, part comic experiment, part visual acid trip.
What makes this one interesting is how far outside the formal underground comix scene it feels. It’s not Robert Crumb, not Zap—this is more fringe, more regional, more tied to the L.A. music scene and its extended creative circle. Which, for collectors, is exactly the point. These are the pieces that didn’t have wide distribution, didn’t get preserved, and didn’t enter the canon—making surviving copies like this increasingly scarce.
A scrappy, authentic slice of 1969.
