Description
Known as the “King of the Surf Guitar,” Dick Dale was a trailblazer whose blistering guitar work helped define the surf rock sound of the early 1960s. Melding Middle Eastern melodies, reverb-soaked Fender tone, and the breakneck attack of a drag race, Dale’s influence reached far beyond the beach—touching everything from garage rock to punk to Tarantino soundtracks.
These two promo pics likely date from the ’90s / early aughts, a period when Dale saw renewed interest thanks to the Pulp Fiction revival and his relentless touring schedule. One image captures Dale mid-performance, barefoot and electric, inscribed “Bill! This is the Sonic Beast! – Dick Dale.” The other features Dale leaning coolly against a rock with his Stratocaster, annotated “Bill – Swords up! – Dick Dale.” Both signatures appear consistent with verified examples of his autograph.
Excellent material for collectors of surf culture, rock memorabilia, or autograph hounds seeking a little extra reverb in their archive.
