The group includes works on Malcolm X’s political thought, the continuing controversy surrounding his assassination, Leon Trotsky’s writings on Black nationalism, and Marxist perspectives on the Black freedom struggle. Although these are later printings, they remain authentic period publications from the era itself.

Merit Publishers served as the publishing arm of the Socialist Workers Party and issued many of the movement’s most influential pamphlets on labor, anti-war activism, and Black liberation. Today these inexpensive publications have become increasingly collectible, not only for their historical content but also as artifacts of one of the most dynamic periods in twentieth-century American political history.
