Description
One of the defining titles in underground comix, Mr. Natural showcases R. Crumb at the height of his powers. First introduced in the late 1960s, Mr. Natural became Crumb’s vehicle for satire, philosophy, and outright absurdity—a bearded, cryptic figure dispensing questionable wisdom to the perpetually confused Flakey Foont.
By issue No. 2, the strip had fully settled into its rhythm: part spiritual parody, part social critique, and part chaos. Crumb’s line work is as sharp as ever, and the themes—sex, power, identity, and American hypocrisy—hit with the same mix of humor and discomfort that defined the underground movement. These books were cheaply produced and widely read, which makes clean copies increasingly scarce.
A classic early Mr. Natural issue—bright, complete, and highly collectible.
