Description
The Mercy Seat gathers more than three decades of Norman Dubie’s poetry, drawing from seventeen earlier volumes and adding twenty-one new poems to create a substantial retrospective of one of the distinctive voices in contemporary American poetry. Dubie is particularly known for dramatic monologues and poems that move through history, art, literature and imagined lives, slipping between recognizable figures and invented speakers. The collection received the PEN Center USA Literary Award for Poetry.
Published by Copper Canyon Press in 2001, this is the hardcover first edition and first printing, signed by Dubie directly on the title page. The original publisher response card remains laid in. Dubie spent much of his career teaching at Arizona State University, while his work ranged far beyond the Southwest through history, mythology, Buddhism and the strange imaginative territory that became his signature.
A signed first printing of Dubie’s major collected volume, bringing thirty-four years of poetry together between two covers.
