Phoenix doesn’t always get mentioned when people talk about the early American hardcore scene, but flyers like this tell a different story. Here we have the Dead Kennedys headlining two nights at Madison Square Gardens with Arizona’s own Meat Puppets, England’s Conflict, and local support from (Grant and the) Geezers. Even better, someone stamped the flyer with a reminder that Black Flag would be rolling through town the very next Saturday—a wonderful little piece of punk promotion preserved on the original sheet.

I picked up this flyer from a record store sometime in the late 1980s or early 1990s. It’s been part of my collection ever since, but these pieces deserve to keep circulating among collectors who appreciate the history. Original regional hardcore flyers like this one weren’t saved in large numbers, making survivors increasingly difficult to find.
