Description

The underground literary world of 1970s Los Angeles produced countless little magazines, but relatively few survive with direct connections to the people who created them. PURR was edited by Linda King and Geraldine King and captures a fascinating moment in the West Coast small press movement. This issue features poems and printed drawings by Charles Bukowski alongside contributions from fellow underground writers and poets.

What makes this copy particularly appealing is its association with Linda King herself. The magazine bears two separate inscriptions from King, sculptor, poet, publisher, and one of the most important figures in Bukowski’s life during the 1970s. While the Bukowski drawings reproduced throughout the publication are printed as issued and not original artwork unique to this copy, the Linda King inscriptions provide a tangible connection to the creative circle surrounding Bukowski during one of the most productive periods of his career.

A desirable Bukowski-related little magazine and an uncommon association copy from the Southern California small press scene.
