Description
I made this portrait of Riley Nixon and her dog, Pig, in 2016 at my studio on Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles. Riley had brought Pig along with her, and once I put the two of them together in front of the camera, the photograph pretty much made itself. Pig was the newest addition to her family. Riley’s shaved head, the clothes, the wonderfully strange position of her hands—and Pig sitting there at her feet looking completely comfortable with the whole arrangement—gave me something I couldn’t have planned.
Years later, I returned to my original digital photograph and decided it was one I wanted to exist as a physical object. I make each print myself at the synaesthesia press using pigment inks on Canon Premium Matte paper, then title and number it by hand. The edition is limited to only five prints. No large production run, no print-on-demand service—just five photographs printed, handled, numbered, stamped, and signed by the photographer who made the original image.
An original Jim Camp photograph, printed and signed by me in an edition of only five.
