Four different images from the same lingerie session printed together on a single 8 × 10 sheet. An unusual survivor from the world of mid-century glamour photography. It isn’t a conventional contact sheet—the individual images are considerably enlarged—but it has something of the same working-photograph quality, almost as if we’re looking over an editor’s or photographer’s shoulder while four variations on a pose are being considered. The unidentified model appears in bra, garter belt and stockings, moving from standing poses to sitting and reclining on the bed.
There’s also something wonderfully straightforward about the whole thing. No elaborate set, no exotic location: curtains, a bedside lamp, a shiny bedspread and four variations on the same girlie photograph. With no photographer, model, publication or studio identified, the print retains a bit of mystery, but the fashion, setting and photographic style suggest circa 1960. As a single object containing four related photographs, it’s considerably more interesting than the typical individual glamour print from the period.
A terrific and unusual piece of mid-century girlie photography—and one of those photographic objects that’s simply fun to handle and look at.
