Description
Volta 5ive continues the synaesthesia press’s tradition of small-run, artist-driven printed matter—part publication, part artifact…and pure love. Produced with an emphasis on physical presence and tactile design, Volta sits in the proud lineage of Wallace Berman, underground zines, the mimeo revolution, artist books, Douglas Blazek and Marvin Malone, as well as any limited press experiment where format matters as much as content. Like the first four issues of Volta, these were never intended for a large audience. They were created for friends of the press.
This lettered edition was created to support the economics of producing the run of 200 while also giving a small circle of special friends a more personal version of the book. It’s part practical necessity, a bigger part Thank-You—a way to keep the press sustainable and to place something special in the hands of those who genuinely connect with the work. In addition to each copy being hand-lettered and signed on the mailing envelope, each copy includes one original, Kodacolor print I found at the SoCal flea market laid-in. Some images were used to make the book—some were left out—making every example of this run unique within the lettered set. It’s the version meant for any serious synaesthesia collectors as well as collectors of artists’ books—this is a piece that functions as both publication and object.
Once this lettered run is gone, Volta 5ive is as well — no reprints.
