Description

Originally compiled by German anatomist Dr. Johannes Sobotta, this Atlas of Human Anatomy became a foundational reference for medical students and professionals throughout the 20th century. The 1930 G.E. Stechert edition presents the revised and corrected English translation of the 6th and 7th German editions, edited by J. Playfair McMurrich of the University of Toronto. Spread across three volumes, it offers comprehensive anatomical insight: Volume I covers bones, ligaments, joints, and muscles; Volume II focuses on the viscera and the heart; and Volume III explores the vascular and nervous systems, as well as the sensory organs and lymphatic system. Lavishly illustrated with hundreds of detailed anatomical plates — some colored, some uncolored, and others partially colored — the Sobotta atlas remains a remarkable fusion of scientific rigor and artistic execution.

This is a complete three-volume set of the Atlas of Human Anatomy, corrected edition (1930), with each volume containing its respective title page and front matter. The three-volume set includes over 165 color plates and hundreds more in monochrome or partial color, all rendered from original drawings by K. Hajek. These volumes were intended for serious anatomical study and remain relevant today for collectors of medical history or vintage anatomical illustration. This is an impressive survivor from an era when anatomical publishing was a major academic endeavor. Copies of the full three-volume set from this printing are increasingly uncommon on the market.

A cornerstone of anatomical illustration and education, Sobotta’s Atlas of Human Anatomy is as visually stunning as it is scientifically important.
