The Black Sparrow Press

Black Sparrow Press books for sale, celebrating one of the great American independent presses of the 20th century. Founded by John Martin, Black Sparrow took serious chances on writers who mattered and built an instantly recognizable publishing identity around carefully made books, limited editions, and the distinctive design work of Barbara Martin. Charles Bukowski may be the name most closely associated with the press, but the catalog reaches far beyond him. For me, Black Sparrow represents what a small press can be at its absolute best: independent, beautifully made, adventurous, and completely its own thing.
